- Macon Arts Cultural Awards
Nominate until Sept. 5, Show is Oct. 6
Macon Arts invites you to nominate a person or organization that has made outstanding contributions to the arts and cultural life in Central Georgia, for the 2008 Macon Arts Cultural Awards. This is a chance to recognize community members who support and contribute to the thriving arts community, and make the arts available to all of us. Thanks to their efforts the arts bring in millions of dollars to Central Georgia's economy and help to draw business and industry to the mid-state.
Please contact Macon Arts (478.743.6940) to get the one-page nomination form. Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2008.
The 2008 Cultural Awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 7 p.m. onstage at Theatre Macon. Entertainment will be provided by Theatre Macon's Youth Actors Company and a reception will follow the ceremony. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased through Macon Arts, 486 First Street, or by calling 478-743-6940.

- Macon State's First Annual “Concert for Cure
Friday, October 10
Macon State College will host its first annual “Concert for Cures” to benefit the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which benefits breast cancer research, awareness and prevention and the Memory Walk of Central GA for Alzheimer care, support and research.
“Concert for Cures” is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10. Performances by various local bands will be held on the Macon State campus off Eisenhower Parkway in the outdoor amphitheater near the Student Life Center. Each performance will last 45 minutes. This event will also feature guest speakers from the Memory Walk and Race for the Cure. To purchase tickets ($5 minimum donation) and/or T-shirts, email april.vanderford@maconstate.edu. Tickets and T-shirts will also be available at the event.
“Concert for Cures” is being organized by the Macon State chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, which is a non-profit organization helping prepare students for careers in the business field. The college will host musical groups willing to donate their artistic talent for these two important organizations in our Middle Georgia community.
This event is open to the entire community. The proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales will be divided equally between both foundations. Members of Race for the Cure and Memory Walk will be in attendance with information about their causes. Phi Beta Lambda encourages the community to join them for the Race for the Cure and Memory Walk on Saturday, October 25th.
